Transitory Cast, 2023

“Transitory Cast” 2023 is a less than 10 minutes performative act that seeks to explore the ephemeral nature of spaces and the act of archiving, through the ancient archival technique of cast.

A fire extinguisher filled with gesso (plaster – a material used since ancient times for casting and molding) is used to cast the space of the archive between two shelves.

After releasing the fire extinguisher’s content and filling the whole space, the slowly settling down process of the powder reveals a performative gesture of nature, becoming an attempt to capture the transitory nature of the cast. Once all the powder finally touched floor, and visibility reached 100% the action ends, resulting in a temporary cast and investigation of the space, inviting viewers to contemplate the relationship between space, time, and memory.
