Archè, 2024
(Installation in Santa Veneranda – stainless steel square-type tubes)
Dimensions: 600 × 500 cm
Archè is a stainless steel sculpture composed of five gothic-arches, each six meters in height, evoking the shape of cross fade equal power. It's installed in the hills between Santa Veneranda and Cinque Torri, Pesaro and is entirely immersed in the natural element. Starting from the etymology of the Greek word 'archè,' meaning 'origin,' Andreoni draws inspiration from the so-called Anemoscopio Boscovich, a Lunense marble disk dating back to the 2nd century AD, now preserved at the Oliveriano Archaeological Museum in Pesaro: broken into two pieces, its upper face displays the map, while on the thickness face, the Greek names, transliterated into Latin, of twelve winds are inscribed. Archè for Friedrich Andreoni is a circular dance, a repeated motion that begins and ends always at the same point, to the extent of confusing its origin. The apparent movement of the arches, five like the characters in Henri Matisse's "La Danse" (1909), oscillates in the continuous repetition of the same motif, whose volumes inhabit the memory of places and time.
