Tracce Mnemoniche, 2024
Mnemonic Traces is a 24/7 sound installation located inside the Lavatoio (wash house) of Santa Veneranda, Pesaro. Submerged in water, an underwater speaker diffuses the melody sung by Anna Caterina Cornacchini, a soprano, from Gioachino Rossini’s Petit messe solennelle, composed in 1863, five years before his death. The work was the last of the Pesaro composer. Through a handwritten note on the sheet, Rossini asks God to grant him paradise.
With Mnemonic Traces, Andreoni inserts himself into the landscape and existing architecture, reflecting on the original significance of the lavatoio, whose source was known since the 3rd-2nd century BC for its therapeutic properties and to connect people with a spiritual dimension.
In a temporal short circuit, water becomes the medium of contact with history, and the melody becomes the traces of memories that it holds beyond the world.
