Better off alone, 2025
Audio recording
Duration: 00:01:26
The time of observation is here intertwined with that of listening; a sound announces itself, spreading through the acoustic vaults of the adjacent room. A small radio, placed next to an empty bed, seems to grapple with the scale of the space, attempting to construct a counter-sonic architecture. Better off Alone unfolds as an emotional trajectory in which the voice—recorded elsewhere in the building—resurfaces as a fleeting passage, now absent, with only the bed bearing witness to its trace. A chant—half-whispered rendition of a famous early-2000s hit—that invokes, like a prayer, the dissonance of a time that believed in the clarity of answers. Then it fades into a mere hint, a nearly childlike whistle, a solitary reverberation that contrasts with the insistent linguistic articulation of the sound piece at the exhibition’s entrance.
